Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV) is the peak body for aquatic and recreation in Victoria. Each year staff and facilities are acknowledged for their outstanding performance in a range of categories.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 16th June, 2017. We are very pleased to announce that the following staff, and facility, have been successful in nominating for the below categories:
Facility Management Award (All Year) - AquaPulse
Since opening in late June 2015, AquaPulse has played an important part in helping members of the Wyndham community build healthy lives through aquatics and recreation. Achieving visits well beyond expectation it has proved to be a favourite for swimmers and gym goers alike.
Membership Sales Award - Susan Clark
Susan Clark joined the team at Western Leisure Services (WLS) in February 2016, seeking to diversify her skills. While the transition into membership sales was a vast one, Susan has shown an aptitude for an area that she had previously never experienced and the change has proved to be fruitful for Susan and WLS.
Pool Lifeguard Award - Peter Leckie
Peter has been a lifeguard with AquaPulse since the centre’s inception and has clearly defined himself as one of the most successful and respected member of the facility’s operations team. Throughout the 2016 calendar year, Peter was internally promoted to become a Part-time Centre Care Manger (CCM) and became one of the squad’s most fastidious employees, a trait which he has been entrusted to pass onto newly appointed lifeguards and other staff hoping to further their careers.
Most Valuable Employee Award - Lachlan McDowell
Joining the team at Western Leisure Services (WLS) as a casual Fitness Coach in June 2015, Lachlan’s ability and ambition was quickly recognised and his employment with the business soon expanded to encompass Lifeguarding, Group Fitness and Personal Training before he was approached to take on the role of Centre Care Manager (Duty Manager) at AquaPulse. Lachlan thrived in all of his casual positions at WLS and was subsequently encouraged to apply for a permanent role within the Leadership Team as Group Gym Coordinator, a role in which he has excelled.
Group Exercise Instructor Award - Tracey Sutherland
Tracey’s role as Group Fitness Coordinator saw her develop the initial timetable which launched ninety classes at AquaPulse, ten of which she personally instructs and continues to lead today. In June 2016, WLS’ second fitness facility (Eagle Stadium) opened, which saw the expansion of the group fitness timetable and Tracey’s role. Now instructing an average of eight classes per week and providing leadership to more than fifty Group Fitness Instructors, Tracey is a force to be reckoned with.
Duty Manager Award - Remi Gordon
Displaying a profound passion and desire to contribute to the Centre’s success, soon after AquaPulse opened Remi was identified as a high performing team member with strong leaderships skills. At the beginning of 2016, Remi was promoted to the role of Part-time Centre Care Manager - a role that she enthusiastically embraced. Due to her expansive skill-set and appetite for the job, the Operations Team made the next logical decision and appointed Remi to the permanent role of Centre Care Manager (Duty Manager) in October 2016, where she has continued to exceed expectations significantly.
Customer Service Award - Josh Doyle
Commencing as a casual Services Team Member, Josh's commitment and contribution to the role was quickly recognised and Josh was offered a full-time position in early 2016. Josh’s commitment to quality service, and his genuinely caring approach place him in the upper echelon of service officers around the state.
Watch Around Water: Facility of the Year Award - AquaPulse
Western Leisure Services, in the management of AquaPulse, displays an unwavering commitment to the Watch Around Water program. This is demonstrated through the establishment of activities and processes that not only deliver the program effectively but enhance it at every level. Each member of the WLS team actively applies the principles of the Watch Around Water program, ensuring that Water Safety Education is paramount.
