Have you met the Safety Squad yet?

WynActive has in place a ‘Watch Around Water’ policy which applies at AquaPulse and Werribee Outdoor Pool. The policy relates to parental/guardian supervision of children.

As a part of WynActive's commitment to keeping Wyndham's children safe around water, AquaPulse now has a new Safety Squad in town, educating kids to check the depths of the pools before entering.

Be sure to say hi and encourage your kids to meet them before swimming at your next visit to AquaPulse.

Meet the Squad

Sandy - Squad Captain

Hi I'm Sandy! I have the very important job of Captain of the Safety Squad. I am here to make sure guests abide by the rules of the pool and check their depths before entering. I watch over all of the pools but I need your mum and dad's help as well to make sure you always stay safe around the water. Be sure to say hello to all of my friends in the Safety Squad and see who is taller - you or them! I love playing hide and seek, can you find me hiding behind every Safety Squad member?

Stevie

Hi I'm Stevie, I love taking lessons most days in the Learn To Swim pool (the 25m pool). I like this pool because it is not as deep as the 50m pool and I can touch the bottom, I am not as good at swimming yet as my best friend Samir but I sure am working on it! Come and say hi next time you are having a lesson or going for a swim in the Learn To Swim pool.

Can you spot Sandy hiding next to Stevie?

Samir

Hi! I'm Samir! I like to swim in the 50m pool most days... I am a good swimmer and I need to be because the 50m pool depth is over my head!  My best friend in the Safety Squad is Stevie, he hangs out at the Learn To Swim pool. Come say hi next time you are heading into the 50m pool and we can see who is taller, you or me!

Can you spot Sandy hiding behind Samir?

Suki

Hi I'm Suki! I'm the littlest of all the Safety Squad and like to stay near Sandy so she can make sure I am safe. It's nice and shallow where I like to play! My favourite pool is the Aquatic Playground, but watch out because there can be deep parts and the tipping bucket can give you a surprise!

Can you see Sandy waving with Suki?

Grown-ups need to know that the basics of this policy are as follows:

  • Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult over the age of 16 years and actively supervised at all times while in the centre.
  • Children under 5 yrs must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible adult over the age of 16 yrs and be supervised within arm’s reach at all times while in the centre.
  • Children ages 0 to 4 will be issued a pink wrist band which must be worn at all times. If children are not within arm’s reach of their parent or guardian at all times, they will be removed from the water.
  • Children ages 5 to 9 will be issued a yellow wrist band which must be worn at all times. If children are unsupervised they will be removed from the water.

They also need to be aware of these additional important aspects of the "Watch Around Water" policy which applies at WynActive's aquatic sites:

  • Groups won’t be admitted where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children under 5 years exceeds 1:4.
  • Groups won’t be admitted where the number of parents/guardians supervising a group of children aged 5-9 years exceeds 1:10.
  • Children under 5 years won’t be admitted without a fee paying parent/guardian, (or a responsible parent/guardian card holder in the case of swim school members) who is prepared to enter the water when needed.
  • For children 10 years and older, parents must use knowledge of the child’s ability and development to determine supervision level.
  • Children 5-9 years entering through the Members entrance at AquaPulse will need to visit the services desk to be issued with a wrist band.
